Xbox Live is a hot mess right now. It’s been acting funny for hours, leaving some downloaded content inaccessible, and Microsoft has yet to explain why.
A quick look at the Xbox network status page as of 7:50 p.m. ET on Monday shows ongoing issues or outright outages across almost all of the key services. The store is functionally unusable, with shopping, access to owned content and basic account features returning errors. Live TV and movies/TV is also not working, as are most “Xbox Live Core Services,” which is all things relating to your account.
The outage reportedly spans all Xbox platforms, including both consoles and Xbox access via Windows 10. Our own Xbox One appears to connect to Xbox Live — displaying a seemingly active friends list — but any attempts to start downloaded games or access the store return errors.
It’s not clear what’s going on, though activity on the Xbox Support Twitter feed indicates that Microsoft is both aware of the troubles and working to fix them. All of the official communications from Xbox Support confirm that a fix is in the works, but there’s nothing that addresses the “why” of it all.
The first acknowledgment from Microsoft that something was wrong came at around 4 p.m. ET on Monday, noting issues with purchasing and downloading from the online store. The network status page was amended not long after to include Xbox Live account issues.
Mashable reached out to Microsoft for comment and received this statement in response: “Some customers may be experiencing delays when attempting to access digital content. We’re working quickly to fully restore services.”
