If you thought the rash of celebrity-inspired mobile games was going to slow anytime soon, it seems we aren’t out of the woods yet.
Taylor Swift will turn her likeness into a mobile game in a partnership with Glu Mobile, the same company responsible for blockbuster Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. There are no other details about the game; Glu only said it and Swift had entered a “multi-year partnership” and the game will be out at the end of 2016.
Swift seems destined to be another crown jewel in Glu Mobile’s growing roster of stars seeking the sort of success that Kardashian has enjoyed since her game began dominating the iTunes App Store charts in the summer of 2014. (The game made Glu Mobile $74 million in revenue during the first 10 months of release.)
Other stars that have signed with Glu Mobile include Jason Statham, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears and Kim’s sisters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner.
Interestingly enough, Swift’s pop-star rival Katy Perry also has a Glu Mobile game. Katy Perry Pop released in December, but hasn’t made the same splash on the iTunes charts as Kardashian’s title. (App Annie puts its highest rank on the Games chart at 49 on Dec. 16, and its overall ranking much lower.)
But if Swift’s luminous star power makes her game perform like Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, she and Glu would both be happy. More than 18 months after its original release, Kardashian’s game — which features new content in regular intervals — is still bouncing around the Top 50 grossing apps in the App Store.
