Student Gets ID and Handwritten Note From Tom Hanks
The Fordham University student whose ID Tom Hanks found and posted on Twitter Tuesday in hopes of returning it now has a message for the Oscar-winning actor. “If you’re listening and you’re out there, I would love for my ID back,” the New York student, Lauren, said today on Good Morning America.
“Tom, I’m here,” she said, revealing that she has not heard from the actor or anyone in his office about returning her ID, even though Lauren’s identity was quickly discovered thanks to the power of social media.
Lauren, who asked that her last name not be used, said she lost her ID Monday after going for a run in Central Park and stopping to take her phone out of her armband to take a picture of the fall leaves in the park.
“Instagram, fall, of course,” the Fordham Class of 2016 student said with a laugh on GMA.
Lauren, a psychology major, had no idea her ID had been lost in Central Park, much less found by one of the most famous men in Hollywood, until her professor filled her in.
“I’m not on Twitter,” she said. “My professor is on Twitter [and] I’m sitting in the library trying to get homework done yesterday and I get an email with a little link to Twitter, ‘You’re famous.’”
The link showed Hanks’ tweet, which included a photo of Lauren’s ID, along with the caption, “Lauren! I found your Student ID in the park. If you still need it my office will get to you. Hanx.”
Lauren says her phone “blew up” as people recognized her and reached out.
And now Lauren has an exciting update: Tom Hanks has successfully returned her ID with a handwritten note reading, “Lauren, Hold onto this!”
