Sony crowdfunding for FES Watch U e-paper watch
Sony launched a new crowdfunding campaign to produce the new FES Watch U e-paper watch, a successor of the first FES watch that was founded and launched Japan, in 2015. The difference between these two is the glass cover of Watch U, made of sapphire, which makes the scratches harder to happen and the premium model comes with a tougher surface of the screen. Also, the new model is much more expansive than its predecessor. Its price is $438. The both watches are not totally smart. They don’t show the notifications of the phone or the monitoring of the steps, but they can be connected to the phone to change the watch’s face.
In 2014, Sony’s crowdfunding was for the e-ink watch, a simple watch called FES. With the new FES Watch U, the company tries to make a crowdfunding again, for a watch with always-on e-paper display and with a very complex design. Just like the previous FES, the wristband and the whole watch face are made from electronic material. The design can be customized by the watch’s owner due to a mobile app, but there are two options available: black and white. Beyond the new design, it seems that there aren’t many things that can be done with the new watch. Sony didn’t mention anything about eventual syncing with the smartphone’s notifications or about something similar.
Those interested in buying this new watch have to know that, for now, the FES Watch U is commercialized in Japan only. Even if the pre-order is placed in Japan, the shipping will be done in April 2017. If this new device will be a big success, there is the possibility of having a worldwide launch, but we have to wait at least one year to see if that will happen.
