Bosses behind the new independent 24-hour gym at Sainsbury’s supermarket are hoping they will be open for business next month. Jit and Dip Dhillon are the franchise owners of Snap Fitness which will be based at The Crescent’s anchor store.
The pair already run a Snap Fitness in the south and are keen to expand the brand which offers well-equipped gyms, accessible 24/7 at reasonable costs.
A US-based franchise, Snap Fitness was founded in 2003 by entrepreneur Peter Taunton and the company opened its first gym in the UK at Milton Keynes in October 2012.
Jit said: “We have another gym down south and we were approached by a contact in Sainsbury’s to see if we might be interested in bringing Snap Fitness to Hinckley. The nearest one is Market Harborough so it is a new name and a new concept for Hinckley.
“People can expect 24 hour access so it really is fitness on demand. People can choose classes and take them any time they want thanks to the class being broadcast on giant screens. We will have a mix of equipment from treadmills with built-in TVs and a suite of free weights.
“We’re really pleased to be coming to Hinckley, it’s a good location and we think Snap Fitness will be a exciting addition to the town.”
A pricing structure has yet to be determined for the gym as franchisees are able to set their own fees.
The expanding company boasts more than 2,000 clubs open or in development worldwide across 15 countries.
In 2008, the company was ranked in Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500 and in 2010, Peter Taunton was named Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for demonstrating extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to his business and community.
Hinckley is already mentioned as a location on the Snap Fitness website which says it will feature treadmills, cross trainers, rowing machines, free weights along with changing rooms and showers.
Snap Fitness joins Sainsbury’s, TK Maxx, Poundland, Prezzo, Costa, Fab noodle bar and Elbow Room Ale and Ciderhouse at the £60 million retail and leisure development. The site will also boast a branch of Simply Gym.
