Rami Malek is having a moment. The Mr. Robot star shot to fame over the summer with the USA series, then yesterday he received a SAG Award nomination for his portrayal of hacker Elliot Alderson. Today? Just a Golden Globe nomination for him, the show itself and costar Christian Slater.
“It’s an incredibly special moment. I think the one thing that hit me was— I thought about everybody who helped to get me where I am, pulled for me, from actors to directors I’ve respected, casting directors, but most of all my family pulling for me every step of the way…This moment is going to be etched in my memory no matter what happens in the future,” Malek told E! News’ Kristin Dos Santos.
The hacker drama took viewers by storm this summer, becoming the must-watch water cooler show with enough twists and turns to make you carsick (in the best way possible). In addition to Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm being one of the many who call themselves new fans of Malek and Mr. Robot, Breaking Bad MVP Aaron Paul has joined the ranks of fosciety lovers.
“I just got the loveliest text from Aaron Paul…and he’s a big Mr. Robot fan and a me fan, and I’m a huge fan of his,” Malek admitted. “He’s such a special, sweet guy and to hear him congratulate me—yeah, it’s moving, for sure.”
Mr. Robot returns to USA in 2016.
