Overfinch’s 40th Anniversary Defender Is Sa-weet!

Infamous Land Rover modifier Overfinch is celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a special edition of the now-discontinued Defender, which combines the rugged boxiness of the iconic British 4×4 with the bespoke luxury of Overfinch.

Clearly, it’s a match made in heaven. Sadly, though, only five examples will ever be made.

Overfinch is scant on details surrounding the small run of special-edition trucks. But does it really need to say much? Just look at the thing.

The British coach-builder does give a few details about the 40th Anniversary Defender. To the trademark Overfinch hood and tailgate, designers added raised lettering in polished black chrome with a sandblasted face.

On the interior, a special headliner has been fitted along with 40th Anniversary embroidered Recaro racing seats.

What I love most about this Overfinch Defender is the fact they’re selling it with a diesel engine and manual transmission. All too often bespoke builds like this lean into gasoline-burning V8s and automatic gearboxes like virtually every other luxury truck on the planet.

This one, though, embraces the military background and utilitarian origins of the truck whilst also taking the luxury to the next level. And it’s that juxtaposition that I’ll miss most about the Defender.

Although I’m sad to see it go, this is perhaps the best possible sendoff it could get. Aside from climbing a dam. Cheers, Overfinch.
