This summer, Broadchurch returns for its final season with a lineup that includes familiar faces David Tennant and Olivia Colman, who are set to reprise their roles as DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller — alongside several new cast members.
The new season will see the detectives teaming up once again as they face an array of investigative cases, including a sexual assault that leaves the titular Dorset community in despair.
Although only 8 episodes remain, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Georgina Campbell, Sarah Parish, Charlie Higson and Mark Bazeley will all be joining the cast. Andrew Buchan and Jodie Whittaker will reprise their roles as Mark and Beth Latimer as well.
According to the Radio Times, the new series is “based on a year of research.”.
“Broadchurch has been an important part of my life, and I am so delighted and privileged to be working with [writer] Chris [Chibnall] and the team again as we embark on the very final series,” executive producer Jane Featherstone explains.
“We will return to the town and characters we know so well as they find themselves caught up in a new and compelling story which will test the strength of the community and the people who live there, and will, I hope, be a fitting end to this trilogy.”
