Forest Fire Accidentally Sparked by Bavarian Forestry Minister
The man in charge of protecting the German state of Bavaria’s wooded areas, Forestry Minister Helmut Brunner, accidentally started a forest fire over the weekend, according to Germany’s The Local.
The blaze was sparked after Brunner dumped ashes, which he thought were extinguished, near his house. Upon discovering the fire a few hours later, Brenner called fire services, and several firefighters responded to contain the blaze worsened by a dry forest.
Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before it did any damage, and for Brunner, who had called for increased forest fire awareness in recent weeks, the experience only added a little more fuel to his fire safety campaign.
“I totally underestimated it, it’s really embarrassing,” he told Bavarian Radio. “You can’t be careful enough.”
